ISO 1600 F8.0 AV mode AWB

Ever since I have received my DSLR for Christmas I have been longing to "play" with it to get used to the features and getting off of "auto" mode.

Today was a sick day. I normally love be outside but the sofa had my attention - so no nature shots. However, I thought I'd get up and just practice on a simple object around the house and chose this fake stem.

I needed to use the crop tool to get as close to the rule of thirds as I could and I was mainly looking for detail.

I was able to catch the fuzz in the sunlight and the background is somewhat blurry which is a look I like. The details are shown below the photo and that's as crazy as I go for now. I'm not up to full manual mode yet.

Here is the same shot run through my favorite filter.

So there it is! My sick day experiment. If you have an SLR and are sticking to the "auto" mode, this is certainly a safe way to venture on.

Many Blessings,

You may find me linked up at any one of the lovely sites located on my footer.

  1. When I moved from my film camera to digital I think I took literally 1700 images the first month. Suddenly I was able to experiment and practice, twisting knobs and pushing buttons and deleting what didn't turn out. It opened up a whole new world for me :-)
Hope you're feeling better and I like your sick day experiment.
